New Hanover County Parks & Gardens provides opportunities for individuals who need to complete community service hours. All community service volunteer work takes place outdoors, and consists of parks maintenance, including picking trash, cleaning restrooms, picking up pine cones, weeding, and other grounds maintenance related tasks.
Please read the following Policies & Requirements carefully, and fill out the application below to be considered for community service. Applications must be submitted a minimum of three business days prior to requested start date.
Policies & Requirements
All community service volunteers must be at least 18 years of age
Community service will be approved at the discretion of the Parks Superintendent
Applications must be submitted at least three business days prior to requested start date
Completed applications must include documentation from the courts or your lawyer specifying the charges against you
Once accepted, participants are required to perform their service hours in 8-hour shifts (with a half hour lunch break) unless their remaining hours are less than 8, in which case they would complete those hours in one shift
All service hours must be performed in one park district
Tardiness or failure to appear for a scheduled shift will result in the revocation of our offer to perform remaining service time with NHC Parks & Gardens
