Parks & Gardens and Cape Fear Museum are taking part in the Parks for Pollinators national campaign by hosting a BioBlitz at Cape Fear Museum Park on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 1:30-3:30pm! During this event, participants will learn how to use the iNaturalist app and best practices for photographing pollinators and plants. After the workshop, participants will explore the park and record the pollinators and plants they find.
What is a BioBlitz? The National Recreation and Park Association and The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation’s Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz is an event where community members work with parks staff to create a snapshot of the variety of wildlife that can be found in local parks. To participate, community members will use an app called iNaturalist to take pictures of plants, insects and animals to see what wildlife is present in the park on the day of the event. The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness and community involvement in the pollinator crisis. The information gathered during the campaign will help us understand how we can better protect pollinators and other wildlife in our community.
